Is The Rate Rollercoaster About To Turn

The post-pandemic trend of pricing long-term or contract rates to the floor is not over, but the data shows this is slowly ending.  Looking at the past six years of dry van contract rates (VCRPM1) and van tender rejection rates (VOTRI), we can see a lagging correlation between the two. Rejection rates tend to lead the slower-to-move contract rates.

Maintenance Costs Ease in Q4, Report From TMC, Decisiv Finds

 Maintenance expenses in the trucking industry decreased 1.4% in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared with the prior quarter, driven by lower costs for parts, according to a report from maintenance software provider Decisiv and the Technology & Maintenance Council of American Trucking Associations.  The TMC/Decisiv VMRS System Service Data Quarterly Report found that parts costs dropped 2.2% on a quarter-to-quarter basis, while maintenance labor costs dipped 0.2%.

Kenworth Delivers Industry’s 1st 15-Liter Natural-Gas Powered Truck To UPS

In a Feb. 20 ceremony at Kenworth’s Chillicothe, Ohio, plant. the truck manufacturer delivered the first T680 day cab tractor with a 15-liter natural gas engine to UPS. The Cummins X15N-equipped Kenworth T680 runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) and is the first of several trucks utilizing the new powerplant that Kenworth is delivering to UPS.
